WHAT IS MALWARE SCAM?

Malware scams trick you into downloading harmful software disguised as legitimate apps, often from unofficial sources. This malicious software can seize control of your phone and your money.

HOW THEY WORK:

• Malware often spreads through .APK files, which are commonly shared via email or chat as links or attachments.  
• These .APK files often masquerade as harmless, everyday apps.
• Once downloaded, the app will request permission to access various aspects of your device. Granting these permissions is the key to the scam, giving scammers remote access and control.  
• With access granted, scammers can steal your banking details, personal information, and other sensitive data.
• The malicious app might even display fake payment pages, designed to trick you into entering your login credentials, further compromising your security.

HOW TO DEFEND?

• Only download apps from trusted sources like Google Play, the App Store, or Huawei App Gallery.
• Only enter your login credentials on official online banking websites. Never enter them on other websites or applications.
• Avoid clicking links from unknown senders or third parties.
